What type of character do you like to see in a book?

Can I make the protagonist of my book a serious character without making them boring? Do you know of any fictional books that have successful serious characters without making the book too dark for normal people? If Aragorn had been the character followed in lotr as opposed to Frodo, the series might have not as been as successful, then again, Tolkien was crafty with his characters. On the contrary, the hobbit was interesting just for being a hobbit. Then again Frodo was a little more serious than Bilbo especially as the story went on. My character is a bit on the Clint Eastwood (Good the Bad and The Ugly) or Toshirō Mifune (in Yojimbo) side and I like that. I have other characters that are funny and bring light to situations but I'm afraid that my story has a slow start due to the serious nature of the protagonist. Maybe I could use the seriousness to my advantage and even create somewhat comical interactions? I just don't know. I want to write something that others, aside from myself, can read and enjoy.

Well, you can look at this several ways. For one, Tolkien stated that Lord of the Rings was not a Christian work, and yet there are Christian symbols throughout the book. But I would suggest actually reading the LoTR books and the New Testament to understand this better. To answer your question, yes, in my opinion, Frodo is a Christ allegory. They both carry a huge burden to save the world, the cross and the ring, both know they are risking their lives, and both live.

Why do people send their children to daycare even when they have a day off from work?

I understand sending them to daycare...some people just have to work, but what I don't understand is why they still send them even if they have the day off. No. They really had no choice but to disguise themselves or else the orcs would have immediately known they didn't belong there. Especially since they thought Sam was an Elf and thought he might have someone with him, so they were already looking for elves or non-orcs. Plus, the orcs took Frodo's clothes so the only thing he had to wear was clothes from one of the dead orcs. LOTR is so original so I really don't think he would have copied.

I hate my life? Please help?

I just hate my family: My mom and my brother always gang together and blame everything on me. My mom treats me like shxt and no matter how hard I try to make her feel proud of me, straight A's, all honors, hundreds on tests, she never seems to give a fxck. She hits me for no reason, for stuff my brother does when she doesn't want to hit him, she blames everything on me. The only people important in my life, I feel, are my 3 year old sister and my dad, who I love with all my heart. The problem is I never see my dad, he's always away on business trips but when he's here, I cherish every moment. He was pushing me against the dinner table and he tried to shove me again but missed and knocked a vase full of my graduation flowers (graduated from middle school a few days ago) and then I got mad because even though my dad couldn't be there, he bought me those flowers and then my mom comes and starts yelling at me, and hit me like three times and I started crying, not really bceause it hurt but because it is so painful to hear her yell at me and hit me and never listen to me. Im confused. Frodo is young during the time of Bilbo's adventures. Or not even born yet. Is he really going to be in the movie and if so what is he really going to do, since in the book Frodo is never mentioned and being so young probably cant do anything really significant to the story?

Okay so im not sure I did the right thing.. Me and this boy have been on and off since august and we've been through sooooo much. Overall he's a really good guy. Should I dig up my cat?

Two days ago I had to put down my cherished 13yr old cat. It was heartbreaking. We buried her in the back garden. The problem now is my other cat, her sister, is searching for her. My cat that died was lying in the cat basket covered in a blanket as we dug the grave and my other cat did come and sniff a bit and the other day she was actually at her grave for ten minutes, but she is still searching. How fast would you have to travel around the globe to always stay in sunlight?

I was watching the Lord of the Rings cartoon and I was thinking how the night riders only come out at night (not really sure if that's accurate) and I thought "Well, if Frodo could move fast enough and he never had to sleep, he could stay in the sunlight and never have to worry about it." Now, obviously Middle Earth is fictional and you couldn't really calculate what the sunrise and sunset is. But, what if someone had to stay in sunlight on earth? How far would they have to travel and how fast to always be in sunlight if they were going directly around the center of the globe?

So I met this guy at the bar. I admit, he is a bit on the wealthy side, and he is out of my race as well, but I can careless about it because I like men in general! He finally stopped and took me home. before i got out of the car, he felt and looked bad and embarrassed and he apologized and told me that I really am not that kind of girl, and that i wasn't a whore because an average girl would of had sex with him and received a shopping spree and money in return, but I'm not because i don't care about that! I RESPECT myself.... he finally got that fact that I wasn't like that. He also said I'm an honest and genuine girl looking for a sweet guy to accept me and cherish me.. To be honest, i can get whatever man I desire and many of then offer to buy me things and take care of me financially but I refuse! and he knows this too. Any who, after that day he still hit me up on my phone to the next day to conversate but i was skeptical of him so i didn't really say much to him. He even called me "babe" when he texted me. Not only that but he makes it a point to keep me updated on what he's doing, and not only that but he takes pictures and send the to me. I think that's pretty sweet! being that he is a really busy man but he always make time for me to say, "good morning", and check up on me.So my question here is what are his intentions?!?? I'm afraid that I might actually like him... I like the fact that he pays ALOT of attention to me and he even wrote down the things that I like, my favorite color, what I like to do, ect. He even checked my cell phone to see what guy I was talking to, 3 times!! I don't approve of it and I always snatch my phone back but he checks my messages to see who I'm talking to.. Any advice???

More storyline, a strong but small group (first the Fellowship of the Ring, then the "rebellion" then Dumbeldores army) trying to do the unthinkable. An old guy with a magic force who greatly loves the young (Frodo, Luke Pansie-walker, Harry Potter) these old guys all have magic powers (Gandalf, Ben Kenobi, Dumbledore.) And when it comes to fighting, Lord of the Rings characters would anihilate them all. Being in the time of swords, axes, and bows, they are all VERY strong and brave. Wielding a sword or axe for 3 days straight in ONE siege takes MUSCLE. Harry Potter people flick their arm and wield a twig. For 2 minutes. In Star Whores (woops) a light saber or futuristic blaster is light as a feather. Do you guys agree that Lord of the Rings is the original, base of most storylines, BEST BOOK SERIES EVER?

Child custody while soon to be divorced?

Me and my "husband" have been married for 4 years and have a 3 year old child together. We are planning to divorce, however I currently live with him. Who's your favorite Lord of the Rings character and why? Mine is Samwise Gamgee. Without him, the ring would have never gotten to Mordor. He's brave, but not arrogant about it. No actually it was quite suspenseful. I think you did an excellent job describing in full detail this metal capsule. I feel like my world is ending i dont know how to manage anymore?

last summer i had major panic attacks that lead me to a two week stay in the hospital. It was really really bad, they thought i had a heart condition from all the jumps and arrythmias and that was a problem because I already have long QT syndrome. When i was little I had leukemia but i survived that and ever since ive been pretty okay but then last summer everything changed. So for about two months straight i lyed on my couch, didnt talk or go out and i couldnt goto school because i was too dizzy to even SIT UP let alone stand and walk around. I couldnt talk because I had no breath and I felt literally like I was dying. They put me on floxetine and it only made it worst and now i have memory problems from that. anyways about 3 months into my anxiety it started to ease, i was not on any meds at that point so basically the whole fall/winter/spring was just basically controllable anxiety, a symptom here and there and i handled it but now its back again but worst. for the last 4 days ive been lying on my couch sleeping. I had to skip my last exam because i couldnt sit up. Im breaking out, and always exhausted. all my friends havent hung with me in about two weeks but they dont even understand what anxiety is actually like. All this is going on and I cant do anything. im lying down on my laptop now i will do anything for a cure. ANYTHING honestly. i dont smoke or do anything but the only thing that has helped my anxiety is alcohol. im so stuck im the one that tells people "to cherish their life because you only have one and people would kill to live yours" but to be honest, i dont even want to be in mine if its going to be like this forever.

Ive raised my step kids since they were 3&7,now 10&14.I have shared guardianship papers with court.I provided for them,rearranged work schedule,doctors,school etc.Provided and loved as my own.We have them every other week,sometimes weeks at a time.Most of my pay went to them.I became extremely ill last year from rare disorder and had to retire early. I have a 21 yr old and my spouse have a 2 yr old.Im expected to clean,,cook and care for the children when they are here, father is sleeping, works nights, that's fine.They are a joy,we had fun,but when they were not allowed to get their way(safety reasons, money, or i was sick)i was treated awful.Now, they don't listen, they yell at me,or cause my daughter harm,or yell and fight each other, i try to stop it,they wake their dad up & start making up stuff &wine to their dad, he starts calling me names, yelling at me.I hate to even say this, it hurts.They've lied on me to get their way with the other parents,played one against the other taught my 2 yr old curse words,hit her a few times, yell at her for crying, when i say something or try to give them a time out, they wake their dad up saying a bunch of lies then all three of them starts yelling at me!Ive went without food ,baths,basic Hygiene stuff because their dad gives them everything they want and himself what he wants most of the time,when they get something they just toss it, in meantime im doing without some of my medications, doctors visits. husband will only do things with kids. i medically cannot drive but im not dead and still young, i do what i can, I feel used by them,ive given money to their mom to help her out with so many things,(a christian southern gal) just because i thought it was the right thing to do..I keep giving into my husbands demands but i think dog pee is treated better than this.I believe in my vows, want to continue to love and cherish my family, but im getting a bad taste in my mouth now and beginning to get fed up with being expected to be someones maid while everyone tears up our home, treats me badly, oh yes, spouse even throws items of mine away without asking, important expensive stuff of mine , he doesn't even care when i say something.
